Hi All
I have an interview for an Access to Science course in the next couple of weeks - has anyone got any advice on how to prepare? I have been told to expect an english and maths test and although I did both for GCSE and got good grades that was over 10 years ago :os I have no idea what kind of maths i'm going to be tested on - any insight at all would be most gratefully received!
Many thanks

Hello! I got on an access course last year but an access to nursing course and the interview was really relaxed - I was told I'd have a maths and english test to do but ended up doing them with everyone else in the first week of the course itself. The tests were relatively simple and are mainly to determine whether or not you'll be able to cope with the course and to test for things like dyslexia so try not to worry about it too much as it's all very basic. Good luck though I'm sure you'll be fine :) xxx |

Heh Bumblebuzz,
I am on an Access to science course now and never had to do any tests. I had good GCSE results from over 10 years ago. If you have above C grades for everything I can't see why they'd have to test you. Have you had your interview yet?

Hi Marie
I have indeed had my interview and I have just received confirmation that I have been accepted onto the Access course - so relieved!
I had to do an English test, basically free writing to see what and how much you could write for 10 mins, a Maths test which I actually found quite testing - my few bits of gcse revision really helped, a graph test and also an interview, although that was very informal and was basically checking my commitment to the course and my plans thereafter.

| Bumblebuzz, if you don't mind me asking where it is you have been accepted onto Access to Science at? And when you applied? Just I see on a previous thread that you are interested in Nottingham so we are in the same part of the country and as I said before I still haven't heard back from anywhere for an interview! Is it at Leicester? I am so nervous about not having heard yet! |

Hi Flopsy
Really don't worry (though I know that is easier said than done). I applied to Leicester back in Feb/Mar time and only just had my interview last week. They have loads of interviews to go through for loads of subjects and from what I understand they interview most if not all candidates, they have just had so many applications it is taking them a while to process and interview everybody.
Best of luck, keep us informed!

Yay! That's fantastic news flopsy :o) It's taken about a week to hear back from the college, just a quick email to say they'll be offering me a place. I'm just waiting for a more detailed confirmation, probably through the post I imagine :o)
Best of luck for your interview, you'll do great!

| Did you ask specifics about the course to see if it matches to Nottingham's requirements? Because Peterborough's course did not have enough Chemistry in it and I really don't want this one to be another false hope! |

Hey flopsy
That's fantastic news, congratulations!
The start date is either w/c 3rd or 10th September from what I gather and I think we'll be starting on the Monday but I'm not sure. I have emailed for confirmation but have not heard anything back yet. I was told we'd know more when we register but no-one has confirmed to me when that will be, late August I believe (let me know if you know anything more).
I haven't helped at all there have I!?! Basically with regards to start dates etc. I know the same as you (i.e. very little) but I shall update on here when I hear anything :o)

Hi Flopsy
I still haven't received a letter :o( Did it give any information about the registration day at all or a confirmation of cost and payment options etc - or do you think this will be in the follow up letter in August?
Thanks
