Hi there,
I am currently due to start my second year of a BTEC in a non science related subject and have only recently discovered that this will not allow me on to any Dietetic course in the UK. I'm extremely passionate about pursuing a career in this area as I enjoy it and it's all I've ever wanted to do. I am struggling to find Foundation Degrees that offer direct access to Dietetic Undergraduate Degrees and wonder if anyone knows of any. The only two I have found so far are UWIC's (which I hope to apply to) and London Metropolitan.
If anyone knows of any other routes or Foundation Degrees, this would be very helpful. As well as this, if there is anyone that has experience of a Foundation degree, it would be great to hear how they found it.
Many Thanks

Hi,
I have just completed a years Access Course in Science, which must include Chemistry and Biology and completed at level 3 (A level) to merit level or above,
That's how I have gained entry to undergraduate nutrition and dietetics at Chester, along with a successful personal statement and interview,
Hope that is of some help X |

Hi there, I've just completed an access to nursing course and have got in to UWIC and got an offer from Chester too - I had to do extra chemistry units to meet the course criteria but that wasn't a problem as the tutors have had many students wanting to study dietetics on their course. I know hertfordshire also offer a foundation course or an access to science course too but your best bet is probably an access course as there are many available. Most universities expect 15 distinctions in biology and 15 distinctions in chemistry/biochemistry and passes or merits for the rest of your units to achieve the 45 credits. I found that doing the access course was a great experience and I enjoyed it so much - you'll love it! Good luck with it all :) xxxx |

Hi Guys,
Thanks for that. I've looked at two Access courses, both Access to Higher Education in Science and Access to Higher Education in life and Biological Science. I'm not sure which one would be most beneficial for dietetics. Another problem is my nearest course is 45 miles away and I'm only 18. I think I may enquire about the Science Access course tomorrow. I'm worried about the admission test too.
Thanks for this as I'd never contemplated an Access course before.

| Im not sure where abouts you live but I have just completed Life Sciences (Cert of HE) at Birkbeck College (Part of the University of London) in Bloomsbury in London. It is a part time course designed to accomodate those in full time employment. Its 2 evenings a week, from 6pm til 9pm (although early afternoons 1-4pm I think, are available). It starts in October and finishes late May/early June. I really enjoyed this course and met lots of interesting people so it is one I would definitely recommend. It got me into Kings College so what more can I say?! |
